Fundraising - 24-hour ‘Bowlathon’ at Desbourough Indoor Bowls Club for the Teddy Bear Foundation

We’re bowled over by the latest effort to raise cash for the Teddy Bear Foundation.

Keen bowlers from Scotland and England have been meeting up for the past six years to combine their love of the sport with fund raising for charity.

Each year, the nations take turn about to decide which good cause – either side of the border – should benefit from their efforts.

And this year, Team Scotland picked the Teddy Bear Foundation!

On Saturday, March 1, the bowlers will gather for a 24-hour ‘Bowlathon’ at Desbourough Indoor Bowls Club in Northamptonshire.

Then, on Saturday April 12, they will head for the Newton Hall Indoor Bowls Club in Blackpool for the 7th annual Thomas Taylor International Charity Challenge Match.

One of the organisers, Derick Pearce, said the get-togethers had raised £35,000 in total since they began.

He added:”I am a support worker with adults who have learning difficulties.  I’m the Scottish captain but the Scots manager also works in the same field.

“The charities we have supported so far have all been children-based.
“We know how difficult things can be for the parents of children with special needs.  We hope to be raising money for the Teddy Bear Foundation for the next couple of years.”
